Linking New Blogs

Anyone who blogs should keep an eye on what new blogs are starting, and be generous with links. Whether you’re a well established blogger, or the newest blog on the block, link out. I believe that linking out is just as important as linking in. I’ve gotten as many readers from linking to people’s blogs as I have from getting links from other blogs, and a lot of those inbound links I get are a result of linking to other people.
Here’s a few new blogs I’ve looked at this week. Dave Turnbull’s blog, he’s writing about internet marketing. And, Ten SEO Tips for Wordpress by SEO Portal.
So, with that, I’ve gotten the attention of three bloggers, who hadn’t previously been reading my blog. Now, they at least know the address. Maybe they’ll become regular readers. Maybe occasional readers. The links help too. Link out, and link often.

Take a look at the blogs ranking for your keywords, and chances are that at least half have huge blogrolls. Another piece of advice: don’t roll with link greedy webmasters or blogmasters. You know, the type that emails you 3 times within 10 minutes to ask “is my link up yet, I have to take yours down if not”. Most of them are over-optimizers and likely to get themselves banned. Use common sense when determining who is good to blogroll with and if you don’t have a good feeling about the owner of the blog, don’t do it!

And then, after they get your link up, they email you 3 times while you’re afk to ask if their link is finally up? My advice is to stay as far away from those guys as you can. Definitely. I do wish more bloggers would link out. I always try to link out as much as possible. Give and though shall receive.
